The Recreation Dept. and The Edge on Morse Drive in Essex are teaming up to offer Tot-Preschool group swim lessons. The lessons introduce swimming techniques and increase safety skills around the water. Following Red Cross guidelines, each level provides a building block for the next.
Group lessons run year-round in the indoor pool at the Edge.
Group Swim Lesson:
The Recreation Department is currently only offering "Splash".
- Splash - 6 months-2.5 yrs. Parent is in the water for this level. This class gives parents safety information and teaches techniques to help orient their child to the water.
Equipment: Please bring a bathing suit and a towel. Goggles are recommended, but not required. Rinse showers are required before entering the pool. Children under 3 years old or who are not toilet-trained must wear a swim diaper in the pool at all times.
Note:
- A minimum of 4 people is required to run the class. If the minimum is not met, classes are subject to change.
- Classes take place at 4 Morse Drive in Essex.
- The Edge Guest Waiver must be filled out before attending the first class.
Check back later for the possibility of more levels being introduced and offered through the Recreation Dept. Levels that may be offered in the future could include.
- Preschool 1-2- Ages 2.5-5 yrs. Parent is in the water for this level. Learn basic water skills at the most rudimentary levels. At this level, children start developing good attitudes and safe practices around the water.
- Learn to Swim 1-4 - Ages 5 & up. Parent is in the water for levels 1 and 2 of LTS. Learn to Swim 3 requires participants to swim 25 yards unassisted; Learn to Swim 4 requires participants to swim 50 yards unassisted.
Registration Information
- 1. Online registration is available with a credit card (a processing fee of $2 or 3.5 %, whichever is higher, plus 10 cents is added). Using this option, your balance is paid in full, and the person is enrolled.
- 2. If a non-refundable deposit is available, it can be paid for online. However, the remaining balance is due before the registered person can attend. Some programs or camps have a specific date that the balance has to be paid.
- 3. Offline registration is available at the Recreation Dept. with a check or cash. You have to come in to do this. Please be sure to create a Household Account online before coming in if you don't have one already.
- 4. Registrations are NOT accepted over the phone or by email.
- 5. Online registrations close the night before the start date of the program or on Thursday evening if the program starts over the weekend.
- 6. Registration Deadlines: if a deadline is posted on the registration page for a program, this is to ensure that there are enough participants to offer the program. The Dept. works with other Depts. to be able to offer programs.
- 7. No registrations are accepted after the second meeting of a program, or after the first day of a camp, or after the first day of a sports program practice.
- 8. If a program is Full, register for the waiting list using the Online Payment Option. No fee is charged.
- 9. Program numbers are checked one week before the start date to see if the minimum number is met.
- Don't Wait! Register Early! (A program might be canceled due to low enrollment or filled).
