Financial Assistance Policy

PURPOSE OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM?
The Williston Recreation & Parks Department recognizes that there are Williston residents who are financially unable to participate in programs offered by Recreation Department, but still desire the opportunity to experience the benefits of leisure activities.  The Recreation & Parks Department has established a Financial Assistance Program as a supplement of funds to make recreation programs available to Williston residents.  These funds are made available through scholarships.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Williston residents who are experiencing financial difficulty or who are in a unique, hardship situation is eligible to apply for assistance.  It is understood that from time to time families may encounter some unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances.  During these times financial assistance maybe needed to help a family meet some recreational needs.  If you feel you need assistance, but do not meet the income guidelines, you may attach a letter to your scholarship application stating your circumstances.  These are special circumstances and will be handled on a case by case basis.

WHICH PROGRAMS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS?
Williston Recreation and Parks sponsored programs are eligible.  Assistance cannot be used toward facility rentals or “co-sponsored” programs/camps unless the co-sponsored agent offers a scholarship.  Co-sponsored programs are ones that are offered by a business or individuals who do not work directly for the Recreation & Parks Department.

HOW DOES THE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM WORK?
Assistance is awarded on a first come, first serve basis while funding is available.  Approved families are awarded in 25%, 50% or 75% increments off the program registration fee.  This is dependent of your income level and family size.  The remaining balance shall be paid by the family.  A payment plan can be set up to pay off a large family balance that is due.

WHAT ARE THE INCOME DOCUMENTATIONS NEEDED?
The income verification documentation that is needed is as follows:

  • Salary/Wages- Attach a copy of the first page of your federal and state income tax return for the most current filing year.
  • Residency Documentation- A utility or tax bill tied directly to the residence with the applicant’s name on it.  All items must have correct name, current date, and correct address.
  • Free Lunch Program Documentation- If you are enrolled in the program. Attach a copy of the Eligibility Information sheet for the free or reduced lunch program with the Williston School District.
