VT State Park Hiking Group, Age 18+ Register View Cart

Do you want to hike more, explore local state parks, and make friends who share a love for the outdoors and being active? The VT State Park Hiking Group might be perfect for you!


The group will meet once a week for 6 weeks to explore a new state park with a scenic hike. Hikes will increase mileage and difficulty throughout the program. Starting with a moderate 2-mile hike and ending with summiting Mount Mansfield!

What to bring:
- A good pair of hiking boots/sneakers
- Water
- High energy snacks
- Sunscreen and bug spray
- First aid kit
- A map, compass, or GPS (this can be on your phone)
- Change of socks
- Extra layers/rain gear

Notes: 
- Hikes may need to be canceled depending on the weather
- Hikes may end before or after the scheduled time, depending on the group's pace
- No entry fee will be required at the State Parks as they are not yet open for the season

Note- Each hike will begin at 1:30 pm. 

Week 1: Mt. Philo State Park - Summit Trail 2 miles

Week 2: Niquette Bay State Park - Mulhey Trail 2.8 miles

Week 3: Little River State Park - Dalley Trail 3.5 miles

Week 4: Smugglers Notch State Park - Madonna Peak via Sterling Pond Trail, 4.4 miles

Week 5: Elmore State Park - Mount Elmore Trail 5.4 miles

Week 6: Underhill State Park - Mount Mansfield Loop Trail 7.7 miles


Green Mountain Passport:
If you are 62 years or older and a Vermont resident, or a Vermont resident who is a veteran who has been honorably discharged from active duty in the US armed services, you are eligible for a lifetime day entry pass into the parks called the Green Mountain Passport. Good for lifetime free day entry. The cost is $2 and available only from your local Town Clerk's office.


Registration Information
  • All Registrations are done online and there are two payment options at Checkout.
  • 1. ONLINE PAYMENT OPTION- is with a credit card (processing fee of $2 or 3.5 %, whichever is higher, plus 10 cents is added). Using this option your balance is paid in full and the person is enrolled.
  • 2. OFFLINE PAYMENT OPTION- is with a check or cash. Using this option, you have to drop off payment at the Rec. Dept., or use the drop box at the back entrance to the Town Hall Building- 7900 Williston Rd.
  • NOTE: When using the Offline Payment Option, the person is not enrolled until a check or cash is received and processed.
  • The Offline Payment Option closes a week before the start of the program.
  • When the Offline Payment Option is closed you can come into the Rec. Office to register and pay before the deadline.
  • Please create a household account before coming in if you don't have one already.
  • Online Payment Option closes the night before the start date of the program or on Thursday evening if the program starts over the weekend.
  • Program numbers are checked one week before the start date to see if the minimum number is met.
  • No registrations are accepted after the second meeting of the program.
  • If a program is Full, register for the waiting list using the Online Payment Option. No fee will be charged.
  • Williston Residents can apply for Financial Assistance if needed. See Link Below
  • Don't Wait! Register Early! (A program might be canceled due to low enrollment).
